For my grandparents

Let’s pretend everything is new.
We will take apart puzzles and put them back together with glue.
I will cut velvet strips and hang them from the sky,
the stars will stick to them like flypaper.
We can keep them in a jar with fireflies
and call them energy.
At dawn we will let them go and watch
as they add rays to the sun.
We can eat oranges with the rind
on the inside. When we go to sleep,
we will hold hands like children
and watch velvet
illuminate the city.
