This fucking year.

It’s the end of 2013.
This has actually been the longest year of my life.
I thought 2012 was longer.
Nope. This year.

This year, I had to battle some evil, evil monsters. I had to kick myself hard in order to keep going. I had to be angry with myself, otherwise I would have simply sat and slept until I was completely immobile.

I’m looking back at my blog entries from a year ago. God, I was crippled. I was completely paralyzed. I wouldn’t leave my apartment for days for fear of…fuck, I don’t even know. Germs? Crowds? Traffic? People I love? Embarrassment? Success? Failure?

All of the above, really.

This year, I made progress. I became myself again. I enjoyed things on a completely new level: without anxiety or fear.

So, in no real order, here are some of the biggest highlights from my 2013.

Making Art

Going to C2E2 dressed as Vince Noir (and having very little anxiety in such a big crowd!) I also made my costume by hand. It took forever, but I love this jacket and wear it all the time.

^^ (This was my actual birthday, in which I was quite sick but decided to go out anyway. I got bronchitis two days later.)

This is my birthday celebration which included kickball and bubbles.

Playing kickball several more times. I want to play kickball as much as possible in the new year.

My Papa [in the white sweater] reunited with his Yale roommates. It was amazing.)

Successfully organizing the Amanda Palmer Kickstarter party (which was mostly in 2012) and seeing it come to fruition in August.

Pridefest 2013 (and dying my hair blue and purple, which eventually faded to purple and pink.)

But,
there were two things that really stood out to me this year. If you’ve read any of my blogs, these shouldn’t come as a shock.

First, student teaching.
This was the single most amazing experience of my life. I got to teach in a fantastic school and work with some of the best 8th graders ever. I seriously cannot emphasize how much this changed me for the better. Now, I just cant wait to start teaching.

I was seriously the happiest.

The second thing may seem small in comparison, but Jimmy’s and my trip to Santa Monica was perfect. Because I’d been going through so much anxiety and fear, I wasn’t sure if I’d even be able to get on the plane. Before we left for the airport, I broke down and said, “what if I can’t do this? I shouldn’t go”, and as those words came out of my mouth, I realized how important it was for me to get on the plane.
And, of course, my anxiety melted away, and I had the best vacation of my life.
I also got to see my all time favorite comedy group. It was extra special for me, because their work got me through my terrible depression and anxiety last winter.
IMG_7385 IMG_7402 IMG_7426 IMG_7429  IMG_7498 IMG_7522 IMG_7577I want to go back now please. And I wouldn’t mind seeing The Mighty Boosh again. 🙂

So that’s it, that’s my year. 2014 is going to be goddamn ridiculous. We’re getting married, moving, and Jimmy will be starting grad school while I’ll bet getting a full time teaching job.

So, come with me next year, on a journey through time and space…

I love how you chose to represent your year mostly through pictures and some reflection, really quite appropriate! I also want to play more kickball with you this year. Excited to ring in the new year with you. Love!
